Bee in flight

Bees 2.0.

Bee in flight

Here's a great rumor to start: too much cellphone use makes one think and act like Tiny Tim:

Tiptoe through the window
By the window, that is where I'll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me.

Oh, tiptoe from the garden
By the garden of the willow tree
And tiptoe through the tulips with me

Knee deep in flowers we'll stray
We'll keep the showers away
And if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight
Will you pardon me?
And tiptoe through the tulips with me

Red Tulips

Up to 90% of honeybees have suddenly died in 27 states in this country, as well as other countries. Tell that to your friends on Twitter.

Bee in flight

Apple makes sexy hardware, but nothing as sexy as a lusty red tulip.

Tulips

Have you ever noticed how delicate a honeybee is?

This is my idea of 'more is better'.

There's some great bee and flower shots here, Shelley.

What kind of lenses do you have and use? Macro? Tele? Curious.

Arthur, these were all taken with a tele, I don't have a macro lens anymore.

Just wanted to let you know since you are a lover of bees that I believe CCD has been sensationalized quite a bit by the media. They are very close to proving that CCD is caused by the Varroa Mites and this website has a method of cleaning them out of hives without pesticide.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~jtemp/dronemethod.html

This website says "…it has been suggested that the development of this particular host/parasite relationship is still incomplete."

http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/misc/bees/varroa_mite.htm

So it is a natural result of transporting broods in a modern world and I would expect either mankind to find a solution to controlling them or the bee populations will find a method of resistance. Clearly good bee keepers (those with genuine concern for the livestock they care fore) will be able to keep their hives healthy - without pesticides and toxins, and those who don't will be driven out of business, and rightfully so.

Many people have tried to associate cell phones and power line EM to cancers and such but never with any scientific proof.

Of course you could say the same thing about what I said above on CCD but there is quite a bit of scientific evidence already for the varroa mite causing it - and absolutely none on EM power line/ radio spectrum causing health problems.

I'm not an expert but if you're concerned about things like I was, I just did my own research and perhaps this will draw the same conclusions.

Regards,

Dave

Dave, I don't think it's as sure a thing as you're saying. I don't think its cellphones, but I do wonder at the dieoff in other countries that don't necessarily migrate hives.

The real point is, it was never a good idea to focus on one type of pollinator, but encouraging natural pollinators without the use of migration of hives requires more than a 'quick technical solution'.

Thanks for the links. I agree, if we're concerned we should research.
