November 9th, 2006

Today is absolutely beautiful day. The sun is out and the sky is exceptionally blue. There's still leaves on the trees, and this is the fun part of fall; with showers of gold and orange and rusty red falling about one, like rice around a June bride.

We should get to about mid-70's today before returning to the more typical cold weather. When I went for my walk this morning, the woods were just full of birds: nuthatches, robins, finches, chicadees, jays, cardinals, and even a couple of woodpeckers.

As I walked, movement in the leaves piled by the side of the path caught my attention, as a box turtle ran (if 'ran' is the right word) from my approach. It hustled a few feet away until stopped by a branch. It then covered it's head with the leaves, thinking it was hidden though its little WWII helmet looking shell was completely exposed.

I made beef stew last night, and I had some re-heated for lunch when I returned. Stew is always so much better the next day, and I found some really good sour dough bread to accompany it. While I eat, Zoƫ is stretched out by the open door; sun on her little white tummy easing the stiffness of her increasingly maturing hips.

I finally managed to get the red wasp outside. We were both relieved.

This afternoon and evening (and the rest of November) I'll be spending working on the book. I'm back in the groove and the writing feels good. A friend sent me an email with links to some web goodies to try, and I'm really enjoying working with the technology.

It's just a great day.

It's morning in America again.

(oops, sorry, that was the other party's slogan).

Hooray for great days!

And sourdough.

And box turtles.

Zoë.

And blog posts that just say, "today was a great day."
