I wasn't able to get out 'flood watching' yesterday as I was paw holding. However, a nasty storm rode through yesterday so I was just as glad to have missed it. Today and/or tomorrow and through the weekend, I'm off in search of the wild, woolly waters.
The flooding will be less so in this area, due in large part to the sufferings of communities earlier along the Missouri. Several levees broke, which eased the level of water in our area, but inundated some communities such as the aptly and unfortunately named Big Lake, now under water.
Still, the waters are unusually high and cresting has not started in our area. Which areas to check out has been simplified by this Google Maps/National Weather Service mashup, which combined Google Maps and National Weather Service flood advisories. It gives me an idea of which areas are at what stage when planning out my route. Excellent use of technology, and mapping different web services. Too bad it can't be used to repair a broken levee.
I found this via St. Louis Today.
